As Alphabet’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt summarizes, having worked through the AI winter he was not optimistic about the potential of AI in the early 2000s. However after hiring leading AI researchers including Andrew Ng and acquiring Deepmind in 2014 Google is currently one of the leaders in the field of AI.
